Orthodontic Braces & Clear Aligners

There are several reasons why you may need orthodontic treatment. This treatment is used to correct a malocclusion, a condition caused by crowded, crooked or protruding teeth that are out of alignment; or jaws that do not meet properly. Correcting the problem can result in better oral health because misaligned teeth can make brushing and flossing very difficult. Over time, this may lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and possibly tooth loss. An improper bite can interfere with chewing and speaking, cause abnormal wear to teeth and lead to pain and issues with your jaws.

Modern Braces

Now days, orthodontic treatment often is more comfortable and takes less time than it did years ago. Brackets are made of metal, ceramic, plastic or a combination of these materials. For those who don’t want to show off their braces, there are clear or tooth color brackets. For those who enjoy having them there are a wide variety of colors for the interchangeable elastics, available in school colors and holidays. There are even gold-plated braces and glow-in-the-dark retainers.

Two types of braces are available: fixed, which are worn all of the time and can be removed only by the dentist, and removable, which the patient can take out of his or her mouth. Dr. Labrada will select the type of appliance based on the patient’s treatment needs and how well he or she will follow instructions regarding care and oral hygiene.

Clear Aligners

Teeth aligners are clear, mouth appliances that move your teeth without the wires and brackets used in traditional orthodontics. The teeth movement with aligners is very effective and predictable. A clear plastic wraps around the entire tooth and puts light pressure moving the tooth in three directions at the same time, achieving results about 20% faster than traditional braces.

When it comes to invisible aligners and metal braces, there are clear differences between the two. In general, the two differ in the following ways:

  • Appearance: Clear teeth aligners can provide a more low-profile approach to straightening teeth, which may allow some people to be more comfortable and confident during treatment
  • Oral hygiene: Traditional metal braces are more susceptible to the entrapment of food and plaque between brackets, requiring more stringent oral hygiene practices. Invisible aligners, on the other hand, can be removed at any time, making maintaining oral hygiene easier.
  • Duration: The treatment duration for invisible aligners is quite shorter than that of traditional metal braces, according to the ADA.

Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings
It is strongly recommended that patients attend at least two checkups and cleanings every calendar year, or once every six months. Even patients with a textbook approach to personal oral hygiene may experience troubling dental problems that could go unnoticed by untrained eyes, and a dedicated team like ours will be able to identify and treat them early on before significant damage can be done to your health and happiness. Our approach is truly comprehensive, and we will leave you with a smile that’s fully diagnosed and refreshingly clean by the end of your visit.
Periodontal Therapy
Periodontal disease may start out as light oral bleeding and swollen gum tissue, but it can quickly grow to threaten your teeth, your jawbone, and your overall wellbeing. At Orange City Modern Dentistry, our goal is to revitalize your gum health at the earliest possible stages to prevent permanent consequences. We offer an in-depth cleaning known as scaling and root planing that can target infectious bacteria beneath the soft tissue and preserve your strong smile well into the future.
Dental Sealants
Patients who are especially sensitive to chronic tooth decay may benefit from the placement of dental sealants over back teeth (the premolars and molars). Because these teeth have such wide chewing surfaces and deep pits and grooves, food particles can gather there over time and cause the spread of harmful bacteria. Sealants are thin and tough plastic-based seals that will be painted directly over the teeth; once hardened, they block out this foreign debris from making a dangerous home in your smile. They’re easy and painless to apply, and they should do their job well for multiple years.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer claims thousands of lives every year, but we hope to minimize this number as much as we can at Orange city Modern Dentistry. Oral cancer screenings are a vital part of every regular checkup, during which Dr. Labrada will carefully inspect the oral tissue, the head, and the neck for any symptoms that suggest the presence of cancerous cells. If we find any cause for concern, a biopsy can be arranged to more precisely diagnose the tissue. The earlier we pinpoint this disease, the better the chances are that the patient can undergo a full recovery.
Fluoride Treatments
If our team determines that your tooth enamel is becoming soft over time, you may benefit from added exposure to fluoride. This valuable mineral is found in most tap water supplies and several foods as well, and its presence actually helps to remineralize weakened enamel and even reverse early signs of tooth decay. Our topical fluoride treatment can be applied to the teeth as a part of regular cleanings, and the process is fast and simple.
Emergency Dentistry
At Orange City Modern Dentistry, we do our best to make time for dental emergencies during regular business hours and also assist patients over the phone who are experiencing a knocked-out tooth, a serious toothache, a facial injury, oral bleeding, or other serious situations. Our goal is to relieve your pain fast and help put your mind at ease as well.

Do you dream of straighter, brighter teeth that will help you feel more self-confident? Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are high-quality, ultra-thin dental restorations that are designed to cover the visible surface of natural teeth. This cosmetic service is often an excellent fit for patients who want to refresh their overall smile’s appearance in a convenient timeframe.
Metal-free Dental Restorations
Whenever our patients are in need of a dental crown, inlay, onlay, or other custom-made dental restoration, Dr. Labrada is happy to recommend all-ceramic, metal-free materials for a highly aesthetic result. Not only will your new addition blend right in with surrounding teeth, but it will also feel very comfortable within the mouth. Their biocompatible nature is also beneficial to patients who may have struggled with sensitivities or even allergies to dental metals in the past.
Teeth Whitening
Enamel can become discolored over time for a number of reasons, including diet, smoking, medications, a lack of oral hygiene, and even simple genetics. If you’re interested in giving your smile a boost, talk to our team about take-home whitening. We’ll provide you with a kit that includes bleaching gel and custom-made oral trays. All the patient needs to do is wear both together as directed each day, and they should see beautiful improvements in just a couple of weeks.

When teeth are weakened, injured, or lost altogether, a custom-made dental restoration is highly recommended. Our practice is home to several quality options, including dental crowns and bridges. All-ceramic materials are available for these additions as well, which will leave you with a highly lifelike result.

When your smile isn’t at its best, a customized restoration can make all the difference in your oral function and sense of self-confidence. Here, at Orange City Modern Dentistry, Dr. Labrada can design the ideal dental crown and/or bridge that will correct dental injuries, cosmetic imperfections, and even the loss of complete teeth. Please contact us to learn more or schedule a first visit.

What Is A Dental Crown?
Dental crowns (also known as “caps”) are designed to cover individual teeth. They hide the entire visible surface from view, protecting it from further damage while also rebuilding its natural and attractive shape. Dr. Labrada may recommend a crown if your tooth is badly injured, heavily decayed, noticeably misshapen, extremely sensitive, at risk for fracturing, or has been recently treated with root canal therapy. He strongly recommends all-porcelain materials for new crowns, as they are highly lifelike and should serve your smile well for decades.
What Is A Dental Bridge?
Do you have multiple missing teeth that appear in a row? A dental bridge can fill this gap in a sturdy and functional manner. This restoration will be anchored in place with the help of dental crowns, which are fitted over adjacent natural teeth. As a result, the bridge is fixed permanently in place and will help the patient regain their original strength.

When our patients are in pain we like to treat and relieve the pain in any way that can save the tooth. Sometimes it is necessary to extract the tooth for various reasons which include:

  • The dentist may decide that the tooth is not repairable or may be impractical to repair under the circumstances.
  • Removal of the tooth may be a matter of health. This is the case in the decision to remove impacted wisdom teeth, teeth associated with cysts or tumors, or teeth that would otherwise compromise the patient’s oral health if left in place.
  • Teeth are frequently removed because they are crowded and their removal would create a situation that could be repaired in their absence. Occasionally, orthodontics require extractions to have more room to move teeth around.
  • The patient may choose an extraction because the other alternatives are simply too expensive.

Dr. Luis Labrada not only shares my dental philosophy of being conservative and caring about each of you as a family, he is also uniquely qualified to carry my practice to new levels of care.
